Over the last two weeks, an average number of almost more than 300,000 new coronavirus cases was reported each day in India. The deadly surge in COVID-19 cases left many hospitals overwhelmed. Meanwhile, the total number of infected cases in India is just short of 20 million and the total deaths have already reached 200,000. The International Academic Network for a Community with Shared Future would like to express deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the Indian government and people.

As India is confronted with the severe and unprecedented impacts of the pandemic, China and the global society are following the concept of a Community with Shared Future, helping India overcome challenges at this most challenging moment. The UN and WHO have deployed all the medicinal resources and personnel at their disposal to India. As a friendly neighbor of India, China is also maximizing its efforts to support India. The Regular Press Conference hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China on 30th April shows that all social sectors in China are taking actions to collect necessary resources to help India fight the pandemic. Since April, more than 26,000 ventilators and oxygen concentrators have been exported from China to India. Besides that, China has also delivered more than 15,000 health monitors and approximately 3800 tons of medicinal resources to India. The international cargo flights from China to India are still operating smoothly, and they will continue to deliver urgently needed supplies to India.

When facing the COVID-19 pandemic, each human life is equal and precious. As President Xi Jinping states, Chinese people have direct and first-hand experience of the tremendous impacts brought by the pandemic. At the most difficult moment in our fight to contain the outbreak, we have received assistance and help from a lot of members in the global community. Such expressions of friendship will always be remembered and cherished by Chinese people and the Chinese government. Having made enormous efforts and tremendous sacrifices, China has become the first major economy to recover since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the strategic outcome that we have achieved, China firmly follows the principle of a Community with Shared Future and keeps assisting other nations in the battle against the crisis. On 30thApril, President Xi sends a message of condolence to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the COVID-19 pandemic in India, stressing that China is willing to strengthen anti-pandemic cooperation with India and offer support to the country. On 3rd May, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of WHO, also indicates that what is happening now in India could possibly happen elsewhere in the world unless all nations take effective measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

Under the current circumstance, the COVID-19 pandemic is more than just a health crisis, it is also an economic crisis, a societal crisis, a humanitarian crisis, and a security crisis. To address the complex issues and challengesthat the COVID-19 brought us, we propose that the governments, academia, and industries to:

1. Enhance the anti-pandemic collaboration between regions and countries, provide both knowledge and practical support to developing and less developed countries where new signs of the outbreak appear;

2. Facilitate information communication and sharing between governmental organizations in different countries, build a more systemic global network of pandemic control and treatment;

3. Foster a better collaboration in vaccine development and equal distribution and access to vaccines, drugs, testing capabilities, and medicinal equipment;

4. Promote trans-institutional and inter-disciplinary solutions, mobilizing and utilizing all the available resources in the global society to tackle the challenge. We believe that acting with unity and responding as a community with shared future is the only way to win the battle against the pandemic.

We sincerely hope that India government go forward hand in hand with international community with the goal of saving lives, and lead the countryrecover from the current wave of the pandemic as soon as possible.
